Louis van Gaal's future in Manchester United has plunged into more doubt after it emerged that Ed Woodward had contacted Carlo Ancelotti about the managerial role in Manchester United this summer.
Sources closed to Ancelotti said that Manchester United Executive vice- chairman Ed Woodward had approached the Italian to discuss a possible move to United this summer but Bayern Munich made him feel more wanted. Munich had already contacted Ancelotti after Pep Guardiola decided to leave after his contract runs out this June. Guardiola announced his decision to quit Bayern in December and Ancelotti was named as his replacement shortly before Christmas.
Pressure is already mounting on van Gaal after Manchester United has displayed series of poor run. United has refused to comment when the issue of Ancelotti was brought up. In the light of Ancelotti’s rejection there are fears at United that Mourinho’s temperament could prove divisive, there is now a growing belief that the current assistant manager Ryan Giggs is the most likely to succeed Van Gaal, when the Dutchman eventually leaves.
How soon will that be...only time will tell.
